Interview with Weird Al Yankovic about his new album

Interview  from the   Bad Hair Times on 08/30/2005

We’re here with the prince of parody, “Weird Al” Yankovic. We’re talking about Al’s fantastic new album, Poodle Hat, in stores now.

Q: So Al, let me start off by going a little of topic and asking you why you didn’t endorse the campaign to get you into the Rock hall.

A: I just didn’t want to take any votes away from more qualified candidates, like Gallagher.

Q: Ah, okay. So let’s talk about the new album. So, as you know, with the whole Ashlee Simpson controversy, there is a lot of talk about performers lip syncing and not really singing their own lyrics. I have to ask you, did you sing your own lyrics on the album?

A: No, I didn’t. I did think that whoever was doing my voice did a pretty impressive imitation, though!

Q: Ah, I see. You have some very interesting collaborations on Poodle Hat. Why do you think Ben Folds agreed to play the piano on “Why Does This Always Happen to Me?”?

A: I think it’s because of his being a Beatles fan.

Q: Right......Anyway, moving on. On a non-album related note, what would you say your biggest fear is?

A: I'm afraid people will confuse me with Garth Brooks.

Q: Aren’t we all? So, I heard you were on America’s Most Wanted to promote Poodle Hat recently. Where are you in the episode?

A: I’m a little hard to recognize - I’m the crackhead holding O.J. Simpson at gunpoint and saying “Okay, pigs, say your prayers right before Leslie Nielsen walks in the room, slamming me in the face with the door.

Q: Wow! That sounds like a great episode! So, why did you decide to dress like Nelly while performing Trash Day on the Poodle Hat Tour?

A: I just thought it helped sell the “Amish look.”

Q: Naturally. So for Poodle Hat, I heard you were considering asking Avril Lavinge to do a duet with you on “A Complicated Song”. Why didn’t you?

A: We didn’t want to frighten small children.

Q: That makes sense. Before we wrap this up, I need to ask you something. Do you know anything about the voices in my head?

A: Those voices are all mine, and basically I'm just scat-singing whatever nonsense syllables pop into my head. No secret messages, no Satanic back-masking.

Q: Whew, that’s a relief! Just before the start of “Genius in France” on Poodle Hat, someone can be heard laughing. Is that one of the band members?

A: No, that was the winner of a local Madonna look-alike contest.

Q: Of course! I can't believe I didn't realize that! Well anyway, we’re going to have to wrap things up. Do you have anything you want to say before we end the interview?

A: I believe it's "brain cells gone, brain cells gone..."

This interview  should not be read by anyone living or dead  it never took place and is not real The Bad Hair Times is not a real news paper I'm not even a real person  and this is not a real web page this is all in your head.
